BENNY BAILEY - SOUL EYES:
A tremendous document of the American expatriot jazz scene in Europe during the 60s -- and a record that features unfettered live work from trumpeter Benny Bailey, saxophonist Nathan Davis, pianist Mal Waldron, and bassist Jimmy Woode! The quartet are matched with drummer Makaya Ntzhoko and percussionist Charly Campbell in a set of 4 long tracks that are all original compositions -- played with a fire, imagination, and intensity that's simply amazing -- and which makes the record one of the greatest ever straight sets from the MPS catalog of the 60s. There's a sense of freedom and soul here that easily matches Davis own work for MPS -- and a level of open-blown spirituality that foreshadows Bailey's excellent recordings for the Ego label later in the 70s. The whole thing's great -- with a depth that American labels might not have even accomplished at the time! Titles include "Prompt", "Soul Eyes", "Ruts, Grooves,

BENNY BAILEY - SOUL EYES:
Superb LP from live concert in 1968 with Nathan Davis, Mal Waldron, Jimmy Woode etc. Listen to the great "Soul eyes". Original stereo issue with record number SB 15158 without tree logo as this never came with tree logo. LP in splendid shape with just minimal hairlines only visualy from strong light. Cover has wear to the corners and tiny writing inside the foldout giving details about the song titles.
